(Kaieteur News) – A policeman was shot dead early Thursday during a misunderstanding with a businessman at Vreed-en- Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
The dead man has been identified as 34-year-old Lance Corporal Richard Hayes, a resident of Jetty Squatting Area.
The shooting occurred at the Vreed-en-Hoop stelling, WCD.
In a statement, police said that there was an argument between the men over the sale of a cell phone when the businessman shot Haynes.
Police have since arrested the suspect, a 37-year-old businessman (proprietor of a cell phone shop) at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling. He is said to be a licensed firearm holder.
“Police have also seized the businessman’s licensed firearm as investigations continue,” the statement said.
