(Kaieteur News) – As the New York Police Department (NYPD) commemorated the death anniversary of fallen Guyanese-born detective Randolph Holder, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Sunday paid tribute to the enduring partnership between the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the NYPD, describing it as a symbol of shared sacrifice, service, and honour.
According to a Guyana Police Force press release, President Ali lauded the Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, and the senior command of the GPF for their leadership and commitment to strengthening ties with their New York counterparts over the past decade. “This collaboration represents ten years of partnership, cooperation, teamwork, mutual support, respect, dignity, and honour,” the President said.
He noted that both forces are bound by a common mission — to protect life and property and to defend the state and its people, calling such service “the ultimate sacrifice anyone can make.” The President’s remarks came as officers and officials joined the NYPD in honouring Detective Randolph Holder, a Guyanese-born officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2015. His legacy, Ali said, stands as a powerful reminder of the selflessness and bravery that define true policing.
“Every officer should be proud of a life defined by selflessness, service, and upliftment,” President Ali affirmed. “Your commitment continues to reflect the highest ideals of policing and national duty.”
Also in attendance were Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Colonel Sheldon Howell, members of the GPF Executive Leadership Team, Regional Commanders, and Department Heads, underscoring the strong institutional and emotional bond shared between the two law enforcement agencies. President Ali urged officers to continue building on that foundation of trust and mutual respect, emphasising that the partnership between Guyana and the NYPD is not merely operational, it is a shared expression of honour, integrity, and pride in service.
