Two hospitalised after foiled NA robbery
(Kaieteur News) – An invasion carried out by two gun-toting bandits on a hangout spot in New Amsterdam, Berbice Thursday evening, has left two men hospitalised with gunshot wounds.
The two masked men reportedly stormed Easy Corner Bar and Boutique, at Lot 47 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
According to Michelle Alexander, three male patrons were at the business establishment when they were pounced upon by the bandits.
“I was selling today with them. They had couple well customers today in the shop, but everybody go away and the three of them leave on the table. They call for a taxi.”
While awaiting the taxi, Alexander said one of the men – Gordon Gomes – inquired about his bill, which he cleared. She then accompanied Gomes and the other men, whose names were given as ‘Troy’, and ‘Orin’ to the bridge.
“I come out and I deh on the bridge sitting with them, and when I sit down with them, I see two guys walking coming from 46 (Stanleytown) side. When they reach hay, I see them tackle the one man with he jewellery,” Alexander recalled.
She said she believed at first that the weapons the men brandished were toy guns, until one of the men fired a shot. The other intruder also discharged a round, before they began a scuffle with the customers.
“I get up and I run and holler…,” she recalled.
The ordeal lasted for a few minutes, during which Gomes and Troy were shot to their feet. Gomes reportedly suffered a wound to one of his insteps, while Troy was wounded in his legs.
Both of the bandits quickly ran from the scene, Alexander noted. They were unsuccessful in their attempt to take any valuables from the customers and the business place, Alexander noted.
“Them ain’t get to get nothing from he, them ain’t get nothing from none of them, because he scuffle with them.
“Nobody ain’t expect is a robbery, nobody ain’t expect something like that. Them boys this run up random and start fire shots. I think was a plaything gun, because is two small thing. Nothing like that ever happen here. We (even) keep karaoke here…”
The injured men were taken for medical attention at the New Amsterdam Hospital, where Gomes and Troy were admitted.
