(Kaieteur News) – After a decade-long absence from one of the world’s fastest-growing beauty pageants, Guyana has returned to the Miss Grand International stage with formidable force.
Leading this historic comeback is Lieve Blanckaert, the 26-year-old entrepreneur and wellness advocate who currently has the pageant world buzzing with anticipation.
As Miss Grand Guyana 2025, Blanckaert is currently representing the Golden Arrowhead in Bangkok, Thailand, competing against 76 other countries for the prestigious title of Miss Grand International 2025. The grand finale, scheduled for tomorrow, October 18, at the MGI Hall, promises to be a momentous occasion for Guyana as the nation rallies behind their representative.
Blanckaert was born and raised in Georgetown as one of eight siblings and has dedicated the past ten years to pageantry, service, and personal growth. Her path has been marked by perseverance through near-victories and devastating personal loss, making her current success all the more meaningful. “This isn’t just a crown,” Blanckaert shared earlier this year. “It’s 10 years of trying, growing, not quitting, coming back, believing, falling apart, and still choosing to show up.”
Her impressive pageant résumé includes the Miss India Guyana 2015 title, First Runner-Up at Miss Universe Guyana 2023, and 2nd Runner-Up at Miss World Guyana 2024. This July, she secured the Miss Grand Texas 2025 crown, which ultimately led to her historic opportunity to represent Guyana at the international level, ending the country’s 10-year absence from the competition since 2015 when Soyini Fraser was Queen.
As preliminary competitions unfolded over the past weeks, the Guyanese beauty has captured the attention of pageant enthusiasts worldwide. She has consistently appeared on the top picks list of numerous pageant blogger pages and social media platforms, with her performances in the swimwear, evening gown, national costume, and interview segments earning widespread praise.
The swimwear competition took place on October 9 at the InterContinental Resort in Hua Hin, while the national costume competition was held on October 13 at MGI Hall. Both events were livestreamed to global audiences, allowing Guyanese supporters to cheer on their representative in real-time.
The Miss Grand International pageant, with its theme “Entertaining the World with Beauty,” goes beyond traditional beauty standards. It positions contestants as global ambassadors, influencers, and cultural representatives with the power to redefine soft diplomacy and national identity.
The competition format will see twenty semi-finalists selected from the pool of 77 contestants through a combination of judges’ scores, public voting, and preliminary competition results. From there, the field will narrow until a new queen is crowned, succeeding current titleholder Christine Juliane Opiaza of the Philippines.
Throughout her journey, Blanckaert has remained committed to inspiring the next generation, particularly young women who may be facing their own challenges and setbacks.
The grand finale of Miss Grand International 2025 will be broadcast live from Bangkok, Thailand, on October 18, with Guyanese everywhere united in support of their representative proudly sporting the Golden Arrowhead on the world stage.
