(Kaieteur News) – The Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation (CJIAC) has said that it plans to integrate biometrics into its list of services to be able to reduce processing times for passengers.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CJIA, Mr. Ramesh Ghir flanked by executives of Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA).
According to a statement from the agency, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Ramesh Ghir recently held discussions with the President of Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA), Mr. Shawn Gregor and other senior executives, to advance CJIAC’s ambitious technology roadmap.
“The primary focus of the discussion was CJIAC’s plan to integrate biometrics and leverage SITA’s cutting-edge technology to significantly enhance service quality and reduce processing times for passengers,” CJIA stated.
During the discussions, Ghir emphasised that this initiative is central to President Irfaan Ali’s vision of transforming CJIA into a modern, efficient, and technologically advanced gateway that embraces digital solutions to enhance the overall passenger experience.
CJIA stated that during the meeting, the CEO outlined several key technology deployments required to meet this vision.
These includes, Self-Check-In Kiosks which they stated that SITA was specifically tasked with working closely with airlines operating at the airport to ensure seamless provisioning and availability for passengers to utilise the self-check-in kiosks currently in the airport terminal.
Another has to do with off-airport services. In relation to this, the CEO outlined his forward-thinking vision for deploying Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS) and Self-Check and Baggage Tag Printing at major international hotels across Guyana, which will offer passengers the convenience of starting their airport procedures before they arrive.
“Reduced Processing Times: To further streamline the departure process, Mr. Ghir requested SITA to cater for Curb Side Check-in and Self Bag Drop services, which are critical steps in reducing processing times for departing passengers,” the statement noted.
On their part, CJIA disclosed that SITA’s executives affirmed their strong commitment to the region, assuring the CEO that Guyana is considered a critical market for the company. SITA also pledged to deploy their latest technology solutions to meet the high expectations of the travelling public and support CJIAC in its transformation into a regional leader in passenger processing and biometrics adoption.
“The CJIAC and SITA teams have committed to working closely together to implement these technological upgrades, marking a major step toward realising a more seamless, efficient, and modern travel experience at Guyana’s main international hub,” the statement concluded.

It is commendable that Guyana plans on upgrading its airport service by using biometrics.Then, why not do the same for GECOM so that Guyanese can have greater confidence in the fairness of the election process.
