(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) are investigating two incidents arising from a land mining dispute in the Toroparo area, Region 7, which occurred on September 23 and September 30, 2025.
According to a police release, the incident on September 23rd, which was captured on video, features the voice of Mitchell Watson. Police said the issue involved personnel affiliated with miner Ronaldo Alphonso and a group including rangers, Marvis Hillman and Edson Carter. “This encounter is reported to have escalated to the alleged discharge of firearms by Alphonso’s security team,” the police related.
It said another incident the following week, saw the continuation of the unresolved tensions between parties. In another video, security agent Leon Wilkinson appeared as the primary speaker, along with ranger, Edson Carter, and security Randy Allen speaking with Juleth George, the general manager of Alphonso Mining, and operator, William Hill.
The police force said ranks from region 7 arrested all persons involved and seized all firearms.
“To mitigate further conflict and ensure order, a joint operational team consisting of police led by an inspector and police ranks, and officers from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission is on the location monitoring the situation,” the release stated.
