Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Amazon Warriors will square off against table-leaders St. Lucia Kings, in a do-or-die situation as they cling to the final bits of their season, beginning today when the first of two crucial battles gets underway at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

The home team has been on a Yo-Yo string since bowling off their run at home, winning some but losing the important games which have put them in a grimy position, as they look to claw themselves out of a ditch with the finals around the corner.
With 12 points, the Kings have done well to maintain the number one position and despite losing their last game, they could likely use such a harrowing defeat to further boost their aggression against an out-of-sorts Warriors.
The key will be Aussie big-man Tim David, who is arguably the engine of the batting alongside touch players like Ackeem Auguste and Roston Chase.
Openers Tim Seifert and Johnson Charles will need to tap into their aggressive nature and lay a strong foundation for the likes of David and company down the order.
Captain David Wiese will have triple responsibility, as leader, a key power-hitter and their most seasoned strike seamer.
With Alzarri Joseph backing his captain up in the pace department and the world-class leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and Khary Pierre holding the spin unit together with Chase; the Warriors will be in for a dog-fight.
The Warriors run at home has been plagued by wins and losses, with today’s battle being the most important to date, as they look to add a significant tally to their 8 points.
Should they look to get past the Kings, a possible Shimron Hetmyer/Shai Hope opening combination could be the remedy to their biggest issue.
Mooen Ali should likely bat three, while the classy Shamarh Brooks should easily make his debut this season to help keep the middle-order together.
Pinch-hitter Quentin Sampson has shown his readiness for the CPL level should be elevated up the order, with Romario Shepherd’s ability to fire from the first ball being a huge reserve for tough positions.
Warriors should also sit out Ben McDermott and utilize his spot to play another batsman, possibly Kevlon Anderson or wicket-keeper Kemol Savory.
Skipper Imran Tahir has been the best spinner this season and will have his work cut out in a do or die game.
Ali made up for his lack of batting form with some exceptional spin bowling which will be crucial today against some aggressive opposition batsmen.
The X-factor Dwaine Pretorius, with a quick half-century a few nights ago, and will be keen on going up against his countryman Wiese; as both players will have similar roles for their respective teams.
This will be the Warriors first Day game since coming to Guyana, with all their stakes on the line against a team who still have to watch their backs, but can still flirt with a loss at this stage.
Action bowls off from 11:00h.
