(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez on Thursday morning issued a warning to Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and the US Department of War, saying to the country, ‘do not dare,’ and to ‘take it easy.”
Speaking from Sucre State, the region from which an alleged drug trafficking vessel struck down by the US last week is believed to have originated, Rodriguez referred to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana’s governments as ‘vassal’ governments of the United States. Rodriguez, who has previously acted as a liaison with former T&T Prime Minister Stuart Young over potential energy negotiations between the two countries, said, “And from here, from Sucre state, a very clear message to the vassal governments of the United States Department of War, the government of Trinidad and Tobago, the government of Guyana: take it easy, do not dare, and do not even think about it.”
“You are lending yourselves to the perverse plans of an aggression against the people of Bolívar,” she said. Rodriguez’ comments come after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar welcomed an ongoing US military buildup in the southern Caribbean Sea, and praised the US military strike which killed 11 men believed to be drug-traffickers last week.
Persad-Bissesar at the time said, US forces should kill all drug traffickers violently, and earlier this week, further stated that she preferred traffickers be blown to bits than the country’s citizens. The strike has since drawn international scrutiny, some experts questioning its legality under International Law. “…You are lending yourselves to destabilise the entire Caribbean and this continent,” Rodriguez said.
She was speaking during the Venezuelan government’s activation of its ‘Independencia 200’ plan, launched by President Nicolás Maduro Thursday morning- a plan intended to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity active in strategic points within the country such as the coasts of Falcón, the Zulian Catatumbo, the Andes and the Aureño plain.
In reaffirming his plan Maduro said “Venezuela does not attack anyone, but it does not accept threats from anyone either.” According to a post on his social media, Maduro emphasised the readiness of the FANB Fuerza Armada Nacional Bolivariana — the Bolivarian National Armed Forces of Venezuela and the Bolivarian National Militia (MNB) to safeguard national territory. “These people are not orphaned, it is not alone, because it achieved the freedom of five South American countries,” he said.
At the site, Rodriguez said the Venezuelan people were mobilised for peace. “It is a strategic scenario for us in the supreme defense of our Essequibo territory, with a very clear message, President: the Venezuelan people are mobilised for peace. The Venezuelan people are ready to defend territorial integrity. The Venezuelan people are ready to defend our heroic independence…So here we are, ready, President, in defense of the eastern region of peace,” she said.
During a weekly Television programme last night, Venezuelan Justice Minister Diosdado Cabello also criticised the government, stating that the country and the ‘lady who leads’ it, has a lot of responsibility. “The lady who governs Trinidad… has condemned now to death any fisherman from Trinidad, from Tobago from Venezuela, from any island that goes out to fish. They can find it on the high seas and bomb it. They are all tangled up in their own issues,” he said. Cabello previously referred to a ‘drunk woman’ governing Trinidad and Tobago.
