Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday commissioned yet another police station, this time at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Commissioning the modern $125 million station was Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andre Ally; Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’, Mr. Errol Watts; Regional Division Commander of ‘4B’, Superintendent Wayne DeHearte; Deputy Commander Mr. Rovin Das; and other senior ranks and officials.
According to information provided by the ministry, the new building forms part of the government’s ongoing security sector upgrade, which is aimed at strengthening public safety and improving the operational capacity of the Guyana Police Force.
Highlighting the critical role of infrastructure in improving policing services, Minister Been in his remarks said, “We will not develop to the structure that we need if we don’t have better infrastructure, better police…”
Speaking also, was the permanent secretary who urged all ranks to serve with dignity and pride while making full use of the upgraded facility. “He acknowledged the serious crime challenges in the division, emphasised the importance of traffic management, and called on officers to maintain excellence in service,” the ministry reported.
This publication understands that the new station is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including separate male, female, and juvenile lockups, a witness and ID parade room, armory and evidence room, a child-friendly area, a domestic violence interview space, specialised offices for CID, Traffic, and the officer-in-charge, as well as senior and junior living quarters.
