Kaieteur News – Dem boys hear govament got big, big plans fuh Stabroek and Bourda markets.
Dem seh dem gon fix up, renovate, modernize them, make them look fancy. Dem boys seh if dem want Georgetown to look nice, dem first gat fuh stop it from smelling like a dead cow soak in trench water fuh three days.
Stabroek Market? That place is a heritage site, yes… heritage of rust, rot, and rat. If you lean pon one ah dem beams at de back too hard, yuh might end up in de river – or under it.
Dem boys seh that market so dangerous, yuh don’t need earthquake fuh bring it down. Just one loud sneeze. People does go in there like is a dare, not a shopping trip.
Bourda Market? That ain’t a market, that’s a petri dish. If yuh want to study bacteria, just let some of the stink water from dem gutters get on yuh shoes. Dem boys seh it got more germs than a sewage line. The drains smell like they trying to tell yuh something – and it ain’t “Welcome!”
But here’s de joke. All de bustle and business happening outside dem markets. Pavement vending tek over. People buying fish in the sun, chicken in the dust, and greens next to a man selling socks. Inside? Empty stalls, shutter down, cobweb hanging like Christmas decoration.
So govament gon spend millions painting, tiling, and putting up fancy lights inside these markets – just so pigeons could shop in style. Dem boys seh unless yuh deal with de illegal vending outside, yuh wasting paint and cement. Yuh just putting lipstick pon two sick pigs.
Dem boys seh if yuh can’t clear de pavements, don’t bother fixing de markets. Is like polishing a coffin—look nice outside, still dead inside. And at de rate things going, the only people gon enjoy the renovations is de rats, de roaches, and de stray dogs near dem butcher stalls.
Talk half. Leff half.

(Kaieteur News) – There was a time in Guyanese politics when crossing the floor required a degree of shame, or at least the decency to look nervous while doing it. By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – Migration policy is a matter of sovereign control. Governments assert, rightly, their authority to regulate borders, determine who may enter, and enforce their laws. The United States has that right, as does every sovereign state. Dem Boys Seh? Dem Boys Right! I just come back from GT and I think the government forget that Georgetown is still the Capital City. They need to clean up the whole of Georgetown, the whole city smells so terrible, they have foreigners coming into the country but they do not see or smell the filt in the city of Georgetown. The government arranges with transportation companies to pick them up from the airport and take them straight to the new fancy hotels so they never know what Georgetown really looks like, its the Guyanese people who are suffering in that stinge. The government needs to have more respect for the people of Guyana. CLEAN UP the city. Why are there open stink gutters all over the city, It is a disgrace, while you build fancy roads and bridges to give the foreigners a false impression of the city. what ever happened to the Beautiful GARDEN CITY we once had? The entire city needs cleaning then you don’t have to hide the city from visitors, the people there can get sick from inhaling that dirt everywhere they go. Find a way to cleanup. Everyone needs to be wearing masks right now. Get some of the prisoners to help cleanup. Lets be proud of the city once more. Lets take example from Dubai and other proud cities. We can do it, we dont have to wear a facade by hiding areas from foreigners, we can be proud and take them on tours of our cities, not hide. I wnt to see improvement the next time I visit, NO OPEN STINK DRAINs and liter all over. LETS MOVE ON UP!
Let me try to count how many “municipal markets” within short travel distance:
There is: Stabroek Market-the one with Tower.
Then, there is the market OUTSIDE Stabroek- No tower- occupies needed
pedestrian space with vans, cars, handcarts, donkey carts- the Arcade is
OVERCROWDED, bursting at the seams.
Now, Bourda Market- in the midst of private housing and valuable real estate.
occupying a street or two besides the stalls.
Kitty Market ? La Penitence Market ?
WHY GUYANA NEEDS THAT MANY MUNICIPAL MARKETS ????
iT’S A QUESTION FOR CITY PLANNERS, MANAGERS, AND THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT.
