Kaieteur Sports – Raekwon Noel’s sensational streak in the pool for Guyana continued, as the standout swimmer powered to a bronze medal in the men’s 200m butterfly at the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay.
Noel stormed through the water to smash his own national record, touching the wall in 1:59.46 to lower his previous mark of 1:59.89.
Brazil’s Gustavo Francisco surged to gold in a new Games-record time of 1:58.95, while teammate Gabriel Moura edged Noel for silver in 1:59.45.
This achievement is a landmark moment for Guyanese swimming, as Noel becomes the first swimmer from the nation to stand on the podium at the Junior Pan Am Games.
He now joins Chantoba Bright, who claimed silver in the women’s triple jump at the inaugural 2021 Games in Colombia, as the only Guyanese athletes to medal at the event.
The Junior Pan American Games gather the fastest, strongest, and most promising junior athletes from South, North, and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, competing across 21 sports disciplines.
The meet serves as a flagship developmental pathway for Panam Sports, the leading regional sporting body and a bridge to the Olympic stage.
Sports on the programme include athletics, hockey, swimming, archery, weightlifting, and badminton.
Guyana is represented at the Games by a 50-member delegation, featuring athletes, coaches, and officials.
