Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh long time in Guyana, people was like cow in a pen. Pen mighta been small, grass mighta been dry, but everybody convince themselves it better than wandering out and not knowing what out there. Every election, the gate open a lil bit, but the cow does just peep, sniff the breeze, and go back to chewing the same old brown grass.
Change use to frighten Guyanese more than a sudden tax bill. People say, “Better de devil yuh know,” and stay right in the pen, even when the mud knee-high. The big ones in charge like it so. They tell the cow, “Outside dangerous. Tiger gon get yuh.” And the cow believe.
But lately, dem boys notice the cow watching that gate different. Sniffing the air longer. Pawing the ground. Asking, “Wait, how come them other cows outside looking fatter?” Some even push the gate a lil… and realise it never had no padlock in the first place.
For the country, this is good. The cow stepping out mean new grass, fresh pasture, maybe even a chance to see if the fence really was keeping danger out or just keeping lunch in. It’s the kind of boldness that could mean new leaders, better roads, and fewer excuses.
But for them big ones in the big chairs? Bad news. They been living sweet knowing the herd would never wander. Now, if one cow bolt, the rest might follow. And when the pen empty, who gon clap when they make speeches?
Dem boys seh the smell of change is in the air. For Guyana, it’s like rain after a long dry season. But for them who build the pen, it’s the smell of hoof prints heading for the horizon.
And remember, once the cow know the gate open, it don’t ever forget.
Talk half. Leff half.
