“Young entrepreneurs are more than just business owners, they are change makers. Our role is to show that success isn’t defined by age but by our courage to start.”
(Kaieteur News) – Hailing from Belvedere, Corentyne Berbice, Region Six, today we shed light on yet another hardworking young entrepreneur, 21-year-old Areanna Itwaru.
This young woman is the founder of a thriving mouth-watering small business called ‘Pickle It’, which she started in June 2026.
In an interview with Kaieteur News, Itwaru disclosed that she started Pickle It because she wanted to turn a simple idea into something meaningful. She wanted to create something of her own that people could enjoy.
“I loved the idea of turning simple ingredients into something flavourful and memorable. Pickle it is more than just selling pickles, it’s about creating an experience,” she explained.
Growing up, Itwaru said, she watched her mother make many things, including pickles, and over time she discovered that it was something she genuinely enjoyed doing.
She shared “As a child, I dreamed of doing something big. I once thought that path would lead me becoming a lawyer, but life had other plans. Today, I trust that God is guiding my journey.”
“Every challenge I face teaches me a lesson and reminds me that success is built through patience. My story is being written and Pickle it is just the beginning,” she expressed.
Currently, Pickle It mostly operates on the weekends, but the owner noted that she is actively working to expand it into a more regular operation as the business continues to grow. For those wondering, Pickle It offers pineapple, mango, golden apple, and cucumber pickles. “But if a customer want anything else pickle I do it as well,” she mentioned.
A year since she launched, Itwaru shared with this publication that the support behind Pickle It has been nothing short of a blessing. Her parents, she stated have been the backbone of this business from day one, as they stood by her through every stage of the journey. “When I doubt myself they reminded me of my potential,” she said.
Itwaru added also, “I believe God gave me this vision and courage to start this journey, and I trust him to guide me every step of the way.”
Further, since she started this entrepreneurial journey, the young business owner disclosed that one of the biggest lessons she has learned as a business owner is that not everyone will like what you do and that is okay.
“I had to learn not to let criticism, doubt, and negative opinions discourage me. I choose to listen to constructive feedbacks, to continue improving my products,” she affirmed.
According to Itwaru, every challenge became an opportunity to learn and grow, and she learned that success is not about pleasing everyone, “it is about staying true to your vision and serving those who value what you offer.”
Noting that this is only the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey, she told this publication that what she plans on achieving is to transfer Pickle It from a small business into a recognised and respected brand that people trust.
“I want Pickle It to be known not only for its products but for the experience it creates and the passion behind it. I hope to expand across Guyana and eventually Beyond. I want to build a legacy that reflects the values I was raised with,” she shared.
As this young woman continues to put in the work and grow her business, she is of the view that “Young entrepreneurs are more than just business owners, they are change makers. Our role is to show that success isn’t defined by age but by our courage to start.”
That being said, our featured entrepreneur believes that there are a lot of opportunities already available to help small businesses. “The key is for entrepreneurs to recognise those opportunities and take advantage of them. Growth comes from being willing to learn,” she said.
