Kaieteur News – With less than a month before the September 1 general and regional elections, the newly formed Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), on Tuesday officially launched its manifesto titled “contract with the People of Guyana.”
The launch took place during a press conference at the Brandsville Conference Room, located at 88–90 Pike Street, Section “M”, Campbellville, Georgetown, making FGM the third party in the race to unveil its policy platform.
Presidential candidate Amanza Walton-Desir, described the manifesto as a moral obligation and a firm commitment to take action on behalf of all Guyanese. ‘The contract with the people’ is anchored on four central pillars the party believes will aid in national transformation.
The first pillar, ‘Empowering the People’, outlines plans for expanding land ownership, supporting small businesses, increasing access to skills training, and providing affordable housing, with specific focus on youth and women. The second pillar, ‘Tackling the Cost of Living’, proposes stricter price controls, targeted subsidies, and the implementation of a national food security agenda. The third area, ‘Fixing Governance’, includes measures to combat corruption, enforce transparency, promote merit-based hiring, and hold the President directly accountable to Parliament. Lastly, the fourth pillar, ‘Building Unity and Deepening Democracy’, focuses on empowering local government, funding community development, recognizing Indigenous rights, and fostering racial harmony.
“We have effectively signed the contract with the people to address issues such as cost of living and the empowerment of our people, to build unity through enhancing our democracy and to improve the quality of governance by waging war and corruption and promoting transparency and accountability,” she said at the launch.
Walton-Desir explained that the document offers a broad vision for the country and sets the tone for where Forward Guyana sees Guyana heading. She added that the contract signing marks the beginning of a series of national engagements that the party will pursue as it builds momentum ahead of the elections.
Appealing to voters, Walton-Desir called on the electorate to vote with purpose and independence. “On September 1, we ask of you the people of Guyana to vote for your interest, not for tradition not for race, and not for those who conspired to keep us here and to keep us poor, “she urged.
During the question-and-answer segment of the press conference, Walton-Desir confirmed that the party’s campaign is fully underway, with representatives actively engaging communities across the regions where FGM is contesting. “We have entered this election to win,” she declared.
She also noted that in the coming days, Forward Guyana will publish more detailed highlights from its manifesto to further inform the electorate of its vision and plans.
