Vote for persons and policies that promote the collective good of all
Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – Permit me to borrow words from Shakespeare’s famous “Julius Caesar”. “Friends, Romans (Guyanese), countrymen, lend me your ears…”
Only the delusional will be unaware that there are no perfect politicians (nor any such human being for that matter), so let us lift our eyes to beyond the hills as we seek Divine guidance for the way forward.
Years ago, during Election season, a friend of mine agonised as she prayed: “Lord, which one of these wicked/ imperfect men do you want me to vote for?” Thank God, He always welcomes the repentant person! This gives me hope!
As election day draws near, may our choice of leadership be guided by the desire for a nation that promotes absolute values, integrity, accountability, fair and equitable distribution of our nation’s wealth, and family values!
(In the midst of writing this letter, I paused to attend a funeral and was singularly blessed and encouraged as the son of the deceased eulogized his mother and expressed how close friends and family shaped him into becoming the man he is today. We must not allow anything or anyone to “mess up” this sacred, God- ordained institution called – family.)
I have friends whom I love dearly, who do not share my faith. Nevertheless, we have mutual love and respect for each other, undergirded by the fear of God!
The fear of God exalts a Nation.
The fear of God brings peace and stability.
The fear of God promotes creation structures – including the uniqueness and blessedness of ‘man’ versus ‘woman’.
The fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil. (Pro.19.23. NKJV).
It would be foolhardy to try to alter God’s standards and creation structures! We have seen and read of persons who mutilated their bodies in an effort to “better” God’s handiwork, and live to regret such decisions! Let us put aside our foolish pride that attempts to dismiss tried and tested unchangeable structures, in the name of ‘contemporary wisdom’; Let us not court God’s wrath, but rather humble ourselves before His Holy throne, and thereby (as individuals and as a Nation) be recipients of His love, mercy, grace and favour!
Onward, upward may we ever go…as we vote, not for race or selfish gain, but for persons and policies that promote the fear of God, and the collective good of all.
