Dear Editor,
A stairway in the heavens upon the waters above
Outlines the hammock’s ark for a journey to yonder
The great Toshao’s dark cacique crown is shrouded in black clouds
Birds of darkness sit where bright plumes are usually placed
Sorrow surrounds the white clouds forming the hammock
Dark clouds sit in audience of those departing
Empty blue spaces of arms outstretched
Blue outlines of the young running to the aged
It’s time to go with the ancestors in the great beyond
We will miss you in sadness and remember you in joy
Time for a new voyage in the hammock in the sky
We await you many seasons from now
We await your laughter, your smiles, and your love
Enjoy the journey and rest in the hammock above
Dedicated to those who died in the MV Barima Tragedy
With sincere condolences
Mr. Jamil Changlee
