Kaieteur News – Six contractors have submitted bids to Region Eight’s Regional Democratic Council (RDC) to construct a health centre at Chenapou Village.
Kaieteur News understands from the bids submitted to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office, all six contractors have bid below the engineer’s estimate for the project.
In its advertisement for bids, the RDC stated that the project is estimated to cost $63 million.
An observation of the bids submitted revealed that the contractors bid between $23 million and $61 million for the project.
This publication understands that the project forms part of the region’s $1.1 billion budgetary allocation for health delivery.
It was reported that on numerous occasions, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony said that the government is constructing health centres and posts across the country to complement the regional hospitals and ensure modern facilities for healthcare workers across the country.
This is aimed at decentralizing and expanding the range of public healthcare services provided to citizens and enhancing accessibility for communities nationwide.
Since assuming office, the government said it has enhanced healthcare access through the construction of 25 new health centres and health posts across the country.
Notably, close to 380 health facilities are operating in the country.
Kaieteur News understands that the health centres that are being constructed offer a wide range of services, including maternal and child healthcare, family planning, general outpatient services, chronic disease management, school health programmes, pharmacy services, and home visits, ensuring comprehensive health support for all residents.
