Pensioner killed after crashing into truck

Kaieteur News – A 77-year-old man identified as Mike Dasarat of Lot 24 Brickery, East Bank Demerara (EBD) died on Thursday, hours after his jeep crashed into a truck along the Friendship Public Road, EBD.
The accident according to police took place around 09:42 hrs. on Thursday. Dasarat was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital but died around 10:34 hrs. while receiving treatment.
Police said that the truck was heading north along the Western drive lane at Friendship.
Dasarat was reportedly driving his jeep in the opposite direction.
The truck driver alleged that in the vicinity of Friendship, the jeep swerved into his lane. He told police that he tried to stop the truck by applying breaks and swerving out of the jeep’s path but the breaking distance was too short and he could not avoid a head-on crash with Dasarat’s vehicle.
Dasarat was pinned and an ambulance was called to remove him from the wreck.
