Kaieteur News – Two members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) have crossed over to A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) without formally resigning from the party.
In a statement published on APNU’s Facebook page on Wednesday, the party announced that Suruj Narayan Singh, former AFC Region 3 Chairman, and Gangadai Lloyd, former AFC Region 3 Councillor, have endorsed APNU Leader Aubrey Norton as their Presidential Candidate for the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
Speaking on the matter with Kaieteur News, AFC Leader Nigel Hughes confirmed that neither Singh nor Lloyd had communicated their resignations to the AFC. “I’ve seen the post on APNU’s Facebook page and it appears to be accurate. They have not communicated with the party with this. I hope the two will send a resignation letter then…or else we have to take the necessary actions,” he said.
Recently, three senior members of the AFC: Sherod Duncan, Juretha Fernandes, and Deonarine “Ricky” Ramsaroop, Ramsaroop also crossed over to APNU by submitting their names to be on that coalition’s list of candidates for the upcoming General and Regional Elections. They too did not inform the AFC of their move. Notably, Fernandes, who previously served as the AFC’s spokesperson on finance, is now APNU’s Prime Ministerial Candidate for the September 1 elections.
Additionally, two youth leaders from the AFC’s Youth For Change (YFC) Onix Duncan and Dillon Mohamed, recently resigned from the party and joined the APNU. Both cited dissatisfaction with the leadership’s anti-coalition stance and neglect of youth representation within the party. In his resignation letter, Mohamed criticized the AFC for failing to mobilise youth support and for ignoring repeated complaints about racist, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic rhetoric within internal forums. Duncan echoed these concerns, pointing to a lack of inclusivity.
