Marian Academy Girl’s punishes a 6-player West Ruimveldt side to advance into quarterfinals.
Kaieteur Sports – The quarterfinal line-up of the 2025 Petra-ExxonMobil Under-14 Football Championship has been finalized following an action-packed round-of-16 on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education ground.
A mix of expected results and surprising upsets kept fans on their feet as the knockout phase got underway in the popular schools’ football tournament, featuring both boys’ and girls’ divisions.
In the Girls’ category, Bartica Secondary was the first to book their quarterfinal spot in emphatic fashion, crushing Good Hope Secondary 11-0. Star striker Keilys Williams led the charge with a sensational four-goal haul. She received support from Nerismar Williams, Ronelly Williams, and Verlerkys Simon each scoring a brace while Ganesha Spencer and Keys Austin added one goal apiece.
Marian Academy continued their dominant run, comfortably dispatching a six-player West Ruimveldt Secondary side 6-0. Haley Haberkorn netted twice with strikes in the 2nd and 8th minutes, while Kaleigh Todd also bagged a brace performance. Skylar DeNobriga and Crystal Patterson added one goal each as Marian remained firm title contenders.
Chase’s Academic Foundation kept their hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Annandale Secondary. Leandra Henrito opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Diana Edwards sealed the result in the 27th.
Meanwhile, Abram Zuil Secondary denied St Joseph High a quarterfinal berth with a commanding 4-0 victory. Akeela Williams registered a brilliant hat-trick (20th, 25th, 38th minutes), and Faith Adams added another in the 36th to cap the win for the Region Two side.
Quarterfinalists decided in the ExxonMobil’s U14 Boy’s division with Charity and Three Mile Secondary Schools advancing to final eight.
East Ruimveldt Secondary edged past Westminster Secondary 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Rodelisa Collins, while Bust Lot Secondary secured a 2-1 win over New Central High. Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary and Waramuri Secondary also advanced following walkover victories.
Over in the Boys’ division, defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation showed their class in a 3-1 win over a resilient Charlestown Secondary. Jadan Christian, Nyron Barrow, and Jashan Haynes each found the net once, with their combined attacking prowess proving too much for Charlestown.
St John’s College cruised to a 3-0 victory over Belladrum Secondary, powered by a brace from Shangi Welch and a goal from Jasiah Nedd, proving to be another dominant contender in the Boy’s division.
East Ruimveldt Secondary also made it through, with Moses Allen’s brace inspiring a 3-1 triumph over West Demerara Secondary. Omari Chase added the third goal in the 24th minute to seal the result.
Three Mile Secondary’s Joshua James produced a one-man show, netting a hat-trick (8th, 28th, 32nd minutes) in a dominant 3-0 win over New Amsterdam Secondary. Three Mile now joins the list of teams advancing further in the 2025 tournament.
Later on, penalty shootouts determined the fate of several teams. Charity Secondary edged Bygeval Secondary 3-2 on penalties, Waramuri Secondary defeated St Joseph High 4-2, West Ruimveldt outlasted Annandale Secondary 5-4, and Dolphin Secondary overcame Cotton Field Secondary 7-6 in thrilling shootouts.
The 2025 tournament is sponsored by ExxonMobil with support from SkyTec, MVP Sports, Stena Drilling, I-Cee Soft Drink, and Demerara Mutual. It is also endorsed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport
With the quarterfinals now set, anticipation is building as the remaining teams prepare to battle for a place in the semifinals of the prestigious U14 tournament.
