At least 54 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since dawn in various parts of the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources speaking to Al Jazeera.
The delegations from Hamas and Israel are in Doha for the indirect talks mediated by Qatar, Majed al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, says.
Senior Hamas official Abdul-Karim Hanini says Israel has killed six freed Palestinian prisoners in an attack on Gaza, calling it evidence of Israel’s continued “policy of revenge and systematic killing against those who resisted”.
The Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, has issued the latest forced evacuation order for civilians living in nine areas in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The Israeli army confirms its forces were behind yesterday’s attack in southern Lebanon’s Deir Kifa town that it said killed Hezbollah commander Ali Abd al-Hassan Haidar. One more Hezbollah fighter was killed soon after in the country’s Beit Lif area, it added, without elaborating on the name of the victim.
The Palestinian Education Ministry says at least 18,243 students and staff members, including teachers, have been killed and 31,643 wounded in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since Israel began its war in October 2023.
US president Donald Trump said he will meet again with Netanyahu this evening to push for a Gaza deal, a day after the two leaders had dinner at the White House.
“He’s coming over later. We’re going to be talking about, I would say, almost exclusively Gaza. We’ve got to get that solved,” Trump told reporters.
“It’s a tragedy, and he wants to get it solved, and I want to get it solved, and I think the other side wants to.”
Trump’s special envoy said he’s hopeful for a deal between Israel and Hamas.
“We are hopeful that by end of this week we will have an agreement that will bring us into a 60-day ceasefire,” Witkoff said. “Ten live hostages will be released. Nine deceased will be released.”
Netanyahu is in Washington until Thursday on his third visit to the US capital since Trump returned to power in January.
