Kaieteur News – Guyana has exported more than US$6.6 million in rough diamonds in 2024, Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) an international watchdog established to curb the trade in conflict diamonds has reported in its 2024 Annual Global Summary.
The 2024 summary was published on June 17, 2025, and includes diamond trade data from more than 70 countries.
KPCS is the mechanism, which the KP uses to prevent the trade of conflict diamonds. Launched in 2003, it is enforced individually by KP Participant countries to ensure that rough diamonds in the legitimate supply chain are KP-compliant.
The report shows that 53,497.45 carats of rough diamonds were exported from Guyana in 2024 at an average price of US$125.06 per carat, amounting to a total export value of US$6,690,284.40. The data also indicates that the country did not import any rough diamonds during the year, nor was any domestic production officially recorded.
The KPCS summary noted that 23 export transactions were officially declared by Guyana in 2024. Guyana is a participating member of the Kimberley Process and is required to submit annual trade data, verify the legitimacy of diamond exports, and ensure compliance with global standards.
Notwithstanding the KPCS report, it should be noted the Bank of Guyana (BOG) 2024 Annual Report states that Guyana’s diamond industry recorded export earnings of US$12 million in 2024. That report states that the diamond subsector produced 55,971 metric carats for the year, representing a 17 percent decline compared to 2023.
