(Kaieteur News) – Police have arrested a 17-year-old male of Cummings Park, ‘E’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown in relation to the death of another 17-year-old in the vicinity of the Route 40 minibus park.
The dead teen has been identified as Keroy Profit of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Police in a statement said that it has launched an investigation into Profit’s death. An altercation reportedly occurred around 18:00h on Wednesday.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and a 17-year-old male, who are known to each other, were among a group of students when they were allegedly engaged in horseplay. During the incident, the 17-year-old male, who was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors, allegedly dealt the deceased a stab to his neck,” police said.
The injured teen was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he died. His body was taken to the GPHC morgue, where it awaits a post mortem examination.
Police have since reviewed closed circuit television (CCTV) footage and have questioned several persons.
