Kaieteur News – The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Eight has issued invitation for bids for the construction of a health centre at the Amerindian Village of Chenapou.
According to the bid document, the project is estimated to cost $63.27 million. The RDC is also seeking bids for the construction of a six-apartment doctors’ living quarters at Mahdia. That project is estimated to cost $27.95 million.
These projects form part of the region’s $1.1 billion budgetary allocation for health delivery.
Bids for the project is expected to open on July 15, 2025 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.
Meanwhile, on numerous occasions, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony said that the government is constructing health centres and posts across the country to complement the regional hospitals and ensure modern facilities for healthcare workers across the country.
This is aimed at decentralizing and expanding the range of public healthcare services provided to citizens, enhancing accessibility for communities nationwide.
Since assuming office, the government said it has enhanced healthcare access through the construction of 25 new health centres and health posts across the country. Notably, close to 380 health facilities are operating in the country.
Kaieteur News understands that the health centres that are being constructed offer a wide range of services, including maternal and child healthcare, family planning, general outpatient services, chronic disease management, school health programmes, pharmacy services, and home visits, ensuring comprehensive health support for all residents.
