Water woes persist at NCN

Kaieteur News – I am writing in response to the letter published on June 22nd by several NCN staff members mostly managers, refuting claims made by an anonymous colleague regarding the appalling sanitary conditions at NCN and DPI.
First of all, I wish to state clearly that I am not the individual who penned the original letter. I am, however, another employee of NCN who can independently confirm that the core of what was said is indeed the ongoing reality, which we face daily.
To attribute the water issue solely to the ongoing works along Homestretch Avenue is both misleading and dishonest for those staff members. This problem predates any construction in the area. For months now, staff have contended with erratic water access, and the situation has only worsened and it’s becoming an everyday thing.
Let me be very clear: the “temporary interruption” described by the signatories of the rebuttal is not temporary to those of us who experience it every day working the late hours. More often than not, there is no running water, and when action is taken, it usually involves requesting assistance from the nearby Guyana Fire Service, which comes to fill tanks using rusty, discoloured, and foul-smelling water that is unfit for basic hygiene.
Staff cannot wash their hands properly, use the restroom in sanitary conditions, nor clean their eating utensils.
To suggest that concerns raised are “malicious and deceptive” is frankly insulting. Rather than addressing the issue, the focus has been shifted to discrediting fellow workers, which further discourages internal transparency and accountability.
This letter is not meant to sow discord but to reaffirm that these health and safety concerns are real. Employees should not have to resort to anonymous letters to have basic workplace needs acknowledged, but here we are—again. I respectfully urge the relevant authorities to investigate this matter fully and independently, and for the administration to stop deflecting and instead invest in permanent solutions.
