Kaieteur News – A group of nearly thirty excited Guyanese models descended on the popular Marriott Hotel, Georgetown last Saturday to meet with globally renowned and celebrated fashion model manager, Deiwght Peters of Saint International fame.
Peters was visiting, in his capacity as Chairman of the EDNA Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts as a part of a Jamaican business contingent organized by the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
A window of opportunity came up with a free day in Guyana before his departure and a casting call was quickly organized. Promoted via whatsapp and an interview on the popular Hits and JAMS Radio, Boom 94FM with DJ Ace, the excitement was palpable.
Deiwght Peters has a reputation second to none in the Caribbean region. The former banker turned model scout has been hailed by fashion bible American Vogue as ‘The Man behind the JAMAICA Model Wave. Other unprecedented media accolades include The New York Times, British Vogue, Forbes Magazine, Italian Vogue, ID MAGAZINE, Le Monde (FRANCE), Dazed and Confused, Systems Magazine has set his iconic eyes on the features and faces of Guyanese.
Peters has crafted an enviable matrix of discovering, developing and then launching once-shy models into the fashion stratosphere to become global superstars. His record is clear and unequalled. Global names such as Tami Williams, Kai Newman, Naki Depass, Aurelie Giraud, Romaine Dixon, Brad Allen, Lawrence, Tomiwa, and several others come to mind.
In recent news, two of Peter’s latest discoveries- Sanique Dill & Dru Campbell are now listed among the hottest new faces on the prestigious Models.com HOT LIST.
Sanique made her international debut as a world exclusive debut at Miu Miu (Paris Fashion Week, SPRING/Summer 2025) while Dru Campbell. The winner of the Fashion Face of the Caribbean Model Contest 2023 started her illustrious career as a world exclusive debut at PRADA (Milan Fashion Week, Fall 2024).
‘Guyanese are beautiful people with very interesting facial features’ Peters shares, ‘I am confident I will be able to find fashion stars in this beautiful country. I am motivated’ he enthusiastically said at the casting call.
“As I have outlined to some Guyanese business and government leaders I have met, I believe Guyana’s renaissance moment is at hand and the story would not be completely or sufficiently written without the beautiful faces of Guyanese fashion models marching on the world’s biggest international designer runways and starring in the best advertising campaigns to validate the inclusive theme of the moment,” Peters articulately opined.
He continued to outline how the models’ international success will be used as leverage to elevate the local Guyanese fashion industry by strategically using the unique faces of fashion as Guyanese ‘style’ ambassadors to the world.
Peters savvy with connections in the business is known to have secured his models direct bookings with A-list brands such as Burberry, Gucci, Balenciaga Marni, Saint Laurent, MiuMiu, Prada.

The ten (10) short-listed candidates are now invited as Guyanese delegates to the prestigious FASHION FACE OF THE CARIBBEAN MODEL CONVENTION scheduled to unfold in Kingston Jamaica between August 15-17 in Jamaica’s capital city, Kingston. They are Dayna Josiah (not photographed), Gabrielle Parefett, Shauntae Washinton, Dunique Bacchus,Jaheim Gopaul, Raul Hinds, Amaan Yusuff, Michah Chichester, David Loncke, Jaheem Adams.
After the session Peters provided invaluable insight into the international fashion industry and how it works and tips on how to develop the qualities to help with success.
The convention is a leading scouting platform for the world’s leading model agents who jet in every year to exclusively attend the event now celebrating 24 years. Many of the agents who attend share a successful history of collaboration with Saint International. Agents attending are usually from top agencies in New York, Miami, LA, Paris, Milan, London, Barcelona, Madrid.
Saint International represents models from many countries from its Jamaican base- Nigeria, Cameroon, United States, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Barbados, Trinidad.
