Gov’t to undertake $2.1B in road works across ECD
Kaieteur News – The government, through the Ministry of Public Works, will spend some $2,141,839,839 on its miscellaneous road programme for several road projects across the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), Region Four.
This is according to an invitation for bids issued by the ministry. Bids are expected to open on July 2, 2025 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.
In its document, the ministry stated the projects have been divided into two phases (phase 6 B&C) and covers lots 1940 to 1987.
Relating to Phase 6 B, the communities where works will be executed are as follow: Old Gas Station road in Mahaica, Enmore Resource Centre, Supply Dam road in Mahaica, Foulis Direct Access Road, Victoria Parallel to West Sideline Dam, Coldingen North Road, Belmonte in Mahaica, Bladen Hall School Road, Goedverwagting New Housing Scheme, Hope Low Lands East of Scheme, East Sideline Dam in Nabacalis, Verginia Village road in Mahaica, Friendship Middle Walk, Zafarali Street and Ogle Old road, Dublyn Street in Victoria, Canegrove, Sparendaam Housing Scheme linking Goedverwagting New Housing Scheme, Better Hope to Temple Street at Vryheid’s Lust road, LBI, and Melanie.
According to the ministry’s engineer, the works for this phase is estimated to cost $1,312,523,485.
Further, as it relates to Phase 6 C, the ministry informed that rehabilitation and construction of roads will be executed at Melanie, Bag Rice Street East Sideline Section in Victoria, Nabacalis, Ann’s Grove Market, Lima Dam in Mahaica, Supply Farmland in Mahaica, Britton Street in Plaisance, First Cross Street Republic Drive in Non Pareil, Beehive, Bladen Hall Mud dam, Wilson Street in Mahaica, Jonestown Walkway in Mahaica, and 4th Street at Supply.
Works for road projects are estimated at $829,316,345.
This publication reported previously, that in executing its miscellaneous road programme last year, the government through the ministry had spent some $74 billion on these projects, and this year, another $52 billion is set aside to undertake similar works across the country.
