Kaieteur News – If you are yet to find that jewellery store that offers quality pieces and have you looking elegant and classy at the same time, then ‘Adorn Deluxe’ is the place for you.
For those not familiar with the business, ‘Adorn Deluxe’ is a small jewellery business proudly owned by 31-year-old Stacey Paul, an Agriculturist, youth advocate, and proud Buxtonian.
Officially launched on May 14, 2021, Adorn Deluxe offers simple yet radiant jewellery of great quality, affordability, and uniqueness for every occasion. They have in store watches, jewellery storage, stainless steel pieces, 18k gold-plated items, and sterling silver jewellery. It literally has just about any jewellery to suit your style.
Sharing with this publication of how it all started, Paul said at the beginning of 2021, she wrote down things she wanted to accomplish, one of which was starting a business.
“I wholeheartedly believed it would happen, even though I had no idea what my niche was at the time. So, I began to analyze myself and ask questions like:
‘Stacey, what do you like? What is something you can see yourself doing and never get tired of?’ That’s when I realized: I love jewellery. Not just any costume jewellery but jewellery I can wear that won’t tarnish overnight, jewellery with a classic, elegant look, and a little edge,” she recalled.
“My niche had been with me my entire life. I was just too blindsided to see it earlier, or perhaps it wasn’t my time yet,” she added.
After deciding it was a jewellery business she wanted to pursue, Paul stated that throughout January 2021, she used her free time after work to do research and educate herself.
Upon deciding on a name, she said she wanted it to be simple yet exuded luxury. “ADORN was the only word that stood out among the list I had created. But it needed something extra to give it a kick. That’s when I added “Deluxe.” When I said it out loud, it felt and sounded right. I knew then: ADORN DELUXE would be the name,” she recollected.
After completing all the research and deciding on a name, Paul said the next step was turning her vision into reality.
“I knew exactly what I needed to do, but fear and anxiety about starting my own business clouded my vision. All the what-ifs flooded my mind. I went as far as creating a social media profile but went cold turkey because I was too afraid to start posting or even ask people to follow my page,” she recalled.
Not letting fear hold her back any further that is when she decided to officially start in May 2021, with the love and support of family, friends and colleagues.
Moving from a business space in her bedroom to now a storefront, Adorn Deluxe is located at Camp and Hadfield Street, inside Keishar’s building.
It should be noted that apart from the jewellery pieces, the business also offers gift boxes that allow you to select and customize your own jewellery combinations.
For birthdays, the store offers 10% off purchases, and would frequently have giveaways and occasional sales as well.
Proud of the growth from 2021to now, Paul related that as a business owner, she faced challenges.
She detailed that her first major challenge was finding the right vendors and dealing with shipping costs.
“I remember my first jewellery purchase: I selected multiple vendors to ensure variety. Unfortunately, three of them sent poor-quality jewellery. I was deeply disappointed, but I knew what my vision was. I had to give them away; because that wasn’t the type of jewellery I wanted representing my brand. Yes, I lost money, but it was for the best,” she explained.
According to Paul, the business world is full of trial and error, but you cannot let that defeat you. “You must be strong when faced with challenges. Dust yourself off and regroup. If you’re passionate about something, you’ll find a way to get it done,” she expressed.
Not letting the challenges defeat her, Paul mentioned that she has plans of expanding and enhancing the services she offers.
She shared that a short-term goal for Adorn Deluxe is to launch a Charms and Trinkets Bar, where customers can visit the store and create their own necklaces and bracelets using charms. This is expected to launch on July 27, 2025.
Her long-term goal however, is to move into a larger space and build the Adorn Deluxe Gift Shop. Not just any gift shop, she said but a luxury-on-a-budget space with a great ambiance, where customers can shop and unwind.
She noted with Guyana being a growing economy, businesses are on the rise, and that every day, new products or businesses emerge.
With that being said, she noted to fellow young entrepreneurs that they should not feel intimidated. “Stay true to yourself and to what you started. There’s space for everyone. We are all uniquely different, and we each have a different story to tell,” she assured.
When questioned what she thinks can be done to help small businesses grow in our society, Paul suggested for there to be systems in place to reduce taxes and duties on imported products.
“It would help small businesses tremendously if systems were put in place to reduce taxes and duties on imported products. Perhaps a quota system specifically for small businesses could work. As small business owners, we’re still in the growing and developing phase. It’s often difficult to stabilize product pricing when such a large percentage goes toward taxes, duties, and shipping,” she briefly explained.
For persons interested in connecting with Adorn Deluxe, you can visit their social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok or contact them on (+592) 620-6162. They are located on Camp and Hadfield Streets inside Keishar’s building, and note their opening hours are 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
