…stolen handbag with documents dumped at D’Urban Park
Kaieteur News- Two motorcycle bandits armed with a knife robbed a woman on Wednesday night in the vicinity of “South School”, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown.
The victim identified as, Nicola Payne, recalled that she was attacked around 20:35hrs while heading home. Payne recounted the two men, one of them of African Descent and the other of East Indian Descent – pulled up beside her on a Lindy scooter. One of the bandits reportedly said don’t move or make any noise as they braced her in the corner of the road.
They reportedly snatched her gold jewellery – a chain and an earring – along with her handbag containing her personal documents some cash, a pair of shoes, a dress and some other personal belongings. “So the East Indian one jump off the bike now after he (the other bandit) done bus off the one side earring and done grab the chain, he now jump off and seh ‘wa you get in the bag deh pass all the effing thing dem. Wa else you got in the bag”, the woman said while recounting that she and the bandits had a “lil scuffle for the handbag”.
“And he tek the knife and lash me, right lash me, but he ain’t lash me with the sharp edge and dat is how I lose the bag because I say this hay suh, I can’t thing with duh because I coulda get a juk or something”, she continued. The bandits then reportedly rode off and Payne filed a police report.
On Sunday, Payne’s bag was found dumped among some bushes inside D’Urban Park by members of the Village Ram cricket team. While leaving the venue after a game of cricket, Omesh Dhanram, one of the team members spotted the handbag.
Immediately he suspected that some delinquents might have dumped it there after stealing it from someone. He alerted other team members and they immediately checked to see if there was still anything of value that could be returned to the owner.
They were able to recover a brand-new pair of shoes and the woman’s personal documents, including her ID card, bank card and other important documents. The cricketers then dropped the belongings at Kaieteur News with the hope of finding the owner. Hours after a Facebook Post, Payne turned up to uplift her documents. She was grateful to retrieve them. The bandits took her dress and whatever cash, she had in the hand bag.
