Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh some big businessmen done start preparing fuh elections like is Christmas—wrapping up two nice big envelopes. One envelope big and fat like a Sunday lunch. That one got the ruling party name pun it. De next one lil skinny, like it pun a diet. That one fuh de Opposition. Dem ain’t call it campaign contribution—dem calling it “insurance” now.
Yuh see, in dis country, some business ain’t about morals, it about margins. And dem boys seh we gat some businessmen dem smarter than de politicians. Dem backing both horse in de race, and clapping the loudest at whichever one pass the finish line first.
Right now, yuh got some fellas who gan be at every PPP rally, waving flag and taking selfie. But by midnight, dem sneaking into Opposition headquarters like thief man wid de second envelope and a bottle of Black Label. One party getting de cheque, de next one getting de promise. But all two getting grease.
Dem boys seh one prominent businessman even got two sets of T-shirts—red and green. Depending on which Minister or Candidate show up, he change shirt. He tell people he “neutral,” but de only thing neutral is he bank account—plenty zeros, no politics.
Is not donation, is not loyalty—is hedging. Like buying umbrella and sunscreen same time. Rain or sun, dem gon smile.
And dem politicians playing along, too. Because none of dem asking where de money coming from—as long as it coming. Some of dem businessmen done master de art of betting on both sides without ever losing. Is like playing dominoes wid yuh foot under two tables.
Dem boys seh if yuh follow de money, yuh gon find one man funding both de Government and de protest.
So when yuh see some of dem big boy businessmen pretending to be loyal, just remember—de only colour dem truly support is de colour of money. And envelope politics gon always beat ballot politics.
Dem boys seh… buy popcorn and watch de show.
Talk half. Leff half
