Kaieteur News- The over 200 hundred Amerindian Villages attending the ongoing National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference will receive the same amount money they were allocated this year from Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) fund.
Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo made the announcement while addressing Toshaos at the conference being held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. According to him, Guyana received less LCDS money this year than it did in previous years. “The first year was 22.7 million US dollars, the second year was 23.27 million US dollars and this year it will also, although we have received less this year, we have kept the 23.27 million US dollars to be given to the communities”, Jagdeo told the Toshaos.
He continued, “So in the first year it was 15 percent as we agreed, in the second year it was 26 percent last year because we received less for that year and this year it’s over 21 percent nearly 22 percent of the resources that you are getting because of lower receipts this year”
The monies will be divided up between the villages using the same formula like last year-based on their population sizes. That is between 10 to 35 million dollars for each village. However, this year, Government will grant each village GYD$3M for housing upgrade. According to the Vice-President the $3M is to honour a request made by the Toshaos during last year’s NTC council. Villages will also receive the same the $1M they have been receiving each year for sports development.
