Kaieteur News- A 22-year-old Sophia man was on Friday released on $150,000 bail, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with obtaining money by false pretense.
Leandro Samaroo, of Lot 5 Dennis Street Sophia, Georgetown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty who read the charge.
Samaroo was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that between February 19 and April 8, 2025, at Dennis Street Sophia, Georgetown, he obtained $300,000 from Latifa Marks by falsely pretending he was in a position to sell her a food cart.
The prosecution had no objection to bail, but requested that the accused report to the Brickdam Police Station.
Magistrate McGusty granted Samaroo bail on condition that he report to the Brickdam Police Station every fourth Friday of every month between 9-11am. The matter was adjourned to June 6, 2025.
