Omai reports new drill success at Wenot gold project

Kaieteur News- Canadian gold firm, Omai Gold Mines Corp. has released new positive assay results from its 2025 drilling programme aimed at expanding the Wenot gold deposit at its 100%-owned gold project located in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

The results, disclosed on May 12, 2025, include three drill holes and one hole extension totaling 2,607 metres. To date, Omai said it has completed 20 drill holes amounting to 13,700 metres, nearing the originally planned 15,000-metre campaign.

“The programme is expected to surpass the planned 15,000m programme as results continue to extend the known limits of the gold mineralization at Wenot,” Omai said.

Omai holds a 100% interest in the gold project, which encompasses two gold deposits: the shear-hosted Wenot Deposit and the adjacent intrusive-hosted Gilt Creek Deposit.

Commenting on the new drill results, Omai’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elaine Ellingham said, “Today’s results exemplify the continued resource expansion potential of our Wenot shear-hosted orogenic deposit. Wide intercepts of high-grade gold mineralization continue to extend the known limits of gold mineralization at Central, East, and West Wenot.”

She underscored that management believes that these results will contribute to a significant expansion in the upcoming Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) update. The company has engaged an independent engineering firm to commence the updated MRE which is expected to take 2-3 months to complete.

“We believe that maximizing the Wenot resource will create more value for our shareholders. This drilling paves the way for a near-term updated MRE, that will form the basis for an updated PEA (Preliminary Economic Assessment) later in 2025,” Ellingham said.

Notably, the results from its first PEA for the Wenot Project revealed that the project is slated to yield over 142,000 ounces of gold annually over a 13-year mine life. At its peak, production is anticipated to soar to 184,000 ounces in a single year, with a total estimated production of 1,840,000 ounces of payable gold.

Moreover, Ellingham stated that an additional hole at Gilt Creek is expected to start shortly to further test for potential expansion and to collect data for the upcoming PEA. Although it is not included in the baseline 2024 PEA, Omai plan to include the Gilt Creek underground deposit as well as an expanded Wenot deposit in the updated 2025 PEA mine plan.

The Omai property mineral resource estimates totals 4.3 million ounces (Wenot at 834,000 oz. averaging 1.48 g/t Au (Indicated) & 1,614,000 oz. averaging 1.99 g/t Au (Inferred) PLUS Gilt Creek at 1,515,000 oz. averaging 3.22 g/t Au (Indicated) and 665,000 oz. averaging 3.35 g/t Au (Inferred)).
