Dear Editor
On this Mothers’ Day 2025 the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) wishes to extend Happy Mother’s Day Greetings to all Mothers in Guyana and worldwide. This day is set aside for honoring and celebrating Mothers, Motherhood, maternal bonds, their influences and contributions in every society.
A Mother is the pillar and the authority in the home, she guides and nurtures emerging leaders in societies and brings together communities. Under a Mother’s love, care and protection these institutions flourish and individuals who are misguided or needs a helping hand is not refused. A mother’s arm embraces and ‘carry the whip’ at the same time, and extends beyond her doors to include the young and the old.
As we lovingly embrace and celebrate these ever-present monumental figures in our society on this Mothers’ Day 2025 let us all resound the call for unity and to end all forms of violence against women. The GPSU condemns and denounces the ever-increasing incidence of abuse and violence, some resulting in fatalities, and this scourge have become rampant. It is the fervent hope that women folk, who are acquainted with victims or who themselves are suffering from this kind of social ill, finds strength and courage to seek help, to speak out and to encourage support for others in confronting this form of crime; understand that being silent and concealing such atrocities only protects and shields the monstrosity and the abuser. It has become a sad situation that in an effort to give recognition to Mothers for their contributions in the development process and stability of every society, the message must also call to stop violence against women and girls. Indeed, our society would grieve and be sorrowful, albeit in a state of despair if this anomaly is not addressed. The message to perpetuators is that violence must stop, protect and respect all women, while being an advocate for others; also to help in the process of rehabilitation.
A gracious thank you to all Mothers for believing in your abilities, for doing all the hard work, keeping the families together, for taking no days off, for not quitting, for always being the giver, giving beyond what you receive, and for doing more right than wrong. I pray that the Father of all mercies, the God of compassion showers His blessings of Peace upon Mothers that are grieving the loss of their children in Guyana and further abroad. Your love and commitment despite this time of great sadness, sorrow and mourning will conquer the darkness and light will prevail. Please know that we hold you all close in our hearts.
Once more, on behalf of the Guyana Public Service Union, we wish all Mothers a well-deserved Happy Mother’s Day 2025. Peace and Love to all.
Sincerely
Guyana Public Service Union
