Tuschen man wanted for shooting teen

Kaieteur News- The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday issued a wanted bulletin for a 25-year-old man in connection with the shooting of Garvelle Hyman, a teenager from Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

Hyman was shot in the back on April 25, 2025, along the Tuschen Public Road. The police have issued the bulletin for Marville Barker, whose last known address is Tuschen North, EBE. He is wanted for the offence of discharging a loaded firearm with intent.

According to reports from Hyman’s family, around 22:30 hrs, on the night of the incident, Hyman was riding his bicycle to his brother on the public road, reportedly upset about someone “violating him.” It was during this time that Barker allegedly approached Hyman with a gun. Hyman noticed the weapon and, in a panic, threw his bicycle at Barker in an attempt to defend himself. Barker then reportedly became enraged and shot Hyman in the back. Despite his injuries, Hyman tried to flee, but collapsed shortly after losing consciousness. He was later taken to the hospital.

Hyman is currently hospitalized at the West Demerara Regional Hospital in critical condition. According to his sister, Abiola Hyman, he has two broken ribs, a punctured lung, and internal bleeding. The bullet remains lodged in his back, and doctors have said he is not yet stable enough for surgery. However, he is able to speak and make slight movements.
