PNM Concedes Election Loss in T&T
(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) Political leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM) and former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says the party has conceded defeat in the 2025 General Election.
Speaking to supporters and the media from a quiet Balisier House shortly after 10p.m. tonight, just moments after UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar declared her party victorious, Rowley, joined by Prime Minister Stuart Young and campaign manager Rohan Sinanan stated that from all indications, the party has lost the election.

“Tonight is not a good night for the PNM but it might be a good night for Trinidad and Tobago. From all reports we have conducted an election, things have gone very well with the processes, the results are coming in now. From what we have coming in at Balisier House, it is clear at this time that we have lost the election,” he said.
“Tomorrow is a new day. We had to concede on the 9th of December 1986, 1995 and in 2010 so this 70- year-old party, sometimes we win, sometimes we don’t win. Tonight is one of those nights where surprisingly we have not done very well in the general election,” he added.
Rowley said that the PNM would begin preparing itself from tomorrow for the next call, and wished the election winners well. From reports, he said it appeared that the party would hold at least 10 to 12 seats, but vowed that it would come back from this figure. “We will continue to remain faithful to our cause which is the interest and service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago. The elections are over, changes will be made, promises to be kept, reviews to be done, rejuvenation to be had,” he said.
He said the PNM would move expeditiously towards its new status, holding a general council meeting on Wednesday to direct elected members of the house as to who should be supported for the post of Opposition Leader. “That is a position we have held before and even from there we will provide Yeoman’s service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” he said.
“I as political leader, I did at an earlier time say to you that i have met with the general leadership of the party and indicated to them that I would not want to continue beyond the end of the year as political leader and would at their advice vacate the post as soon as they would like me to to facilitate the requisite convention. We will do that and conduct our party business… with gusto in the coming weeks,” he added.
Answering questions last night, Young urged supporters not to be disappointed. He said that he won his seat and promised to fight for the country and hold the UNC ‘to the coals.’ “Disappointment is part of life, do not be despondent, you still have a young person, not only Young in name, more than willing ready and able to continue fighting for Trinidad and Tobago.” he said.
