2025 Inaugural Breakout T20 League Round 1…
Kaieteur Sports- Windward Island Infernos skipper Alick Athanaze hit a classy half-century, the first of the tournament which propelled his team to a comeback 25-run win over the Guyana Rainforest Rangers yesterday at the Brain Lara Cricket Academy Ground.
The West Indies left-hander carried the Infernos with his fiery knock of 97 not out off 57 balls with five fours and seven huge sixes, while his support came in the form of Dillon Douglas who scored 26 (3×4). Guyana’s bowling was led by pacer Nial Smith who claimed 3-28 along with 2-34 from the young seamer Jediah Blades.
The Windwards skipper made amends after losing a cluster of wickets and played a captain’s knock up until the very last ball he faced, finishing off the innings with a number of boundaries to carry his team to 166-6.
Guyana misfired terribly after a century stand from opener Adrian Sukwah who stroked a classy 57 off 43 (6×4 1×6) and Kevlon Anderson who hit three sixes and as many fours in his 58 off 43 balls. No other batter reached double figures as leg-spinner Darel Cyrus bagged 4-37 with support from Ryan John who captured 2-16, keeping the Rainforest Rangers to 141-9 after 20 overs.
The next match will see the Rangers looking to rebound against the home team Trinidad and Tobago Legion tonight from 19:00h. (C. Ross)
