Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh is nuff nurse aide now graduating. De odder day we read about some 750 graduating. Dat should fill some of dem vacancies at dem public hospital. But dem boys want know—if we got so much nurse aide, how come sick people still smellin’ like last week Tuesday?
Dem boys seh is a shame. Man tek he mudda to hospital, leff she clean and tidy, and when he go back, she look like she been like some dem vagrants wah sleeping pun de pavements.
Some of dem family members does gat to walk with soap and towel fuh early morning visit. Dem family nah suppose to bathe de patient. If yuh admit in hospital, yuh nah suppose to wait till cousin or aunty come to get a lil wipe-down or to take you and put you under de shower.
Dem boys seh nurses must nurse. That is why dem name nurse! But some behaving like dem is just security guard for de medication cabinet. You ring the bell, dem tell you “hold on,” and that hold on stretch longer than de Budget Speech.
Patient want go toilet, dem got to wait like is immigration line at Timehri. One man seh by time a nurse show up, he bladder done empty itself—right deh in de bed. And guess who had to change de sheet? De same family who barely get bus money to come visit.
Dem boys seh some hospital looking like hotel lobby, but yuh relative still get served like is ration camp. Family bringing food, water, pampers, towel, bedsheet, even toilet paper. Wah next? Bring yuh own drip?
We ain’t saying nurses ain’t wukking hard, but if we got all dem fresh, young, well-trained nurse aide graduating, then use dem! Put dem to wuk! No patient must sit down hungry, stink, and sad while nurse dem updating TikTok status.
Dem boys seh if yuh got people in hospital, yuh shouldn’t need a whole household staff to take care of dem. Dem boys seh… nurse dem must nurse. Not just clock in, disappear, and reappear when discharge paper ready.
