RSS completes probe into shooting death of Ronaldo Peters – GPF

…investigation still ongoing into killing of Keon Fogenay

Kaieteur News- The investigation into the fatal police shooting of Ronaldo Peters has been completed, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported Tuesday.

The GPF said its Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and the Regional Security System (RSS) have completed their respective investigations and the file is expected to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) by April 23rd, 2025, for legal advice.

Peters was killed by police sergeant Kendall on the evening of April 7, 2025. Kendall had claimed that the young man was wanted for rape. He also claimed that in an attempt to arrest Peters, his firearm went off, causing the fatal shot. However, surveillance footage which showed him running behind Peters with a gun counteracted the police’s claim. Shortly after, the police officer was seen fetching the injured man by his clothes.

That shooting death had evoked a massive protest in the township the following day, where another man, 32-year-old Keon Fogenay, was shot in the eye and killed by another police officer.

Police said Tuesday that investigations into the killing of Fogenay are still ongoing, as other witnesses to the fatal shooting are expected to be interviewed by investigators to complete the case before the file is submitted.

The RSS is also expected to submit a report containing findings and recommendations by Friday, April 25, 2025.
