(Kaieteur News) – The hope is that Guyanese are grasping what’s happening to their homeland. Forces of darkness are dismantling Guyana, one place and guardrail at a time; and one citizen and guardian at a time. Guyanese are free to define ‘forces of darkness’ however they please. I shall leave it there, and proceed with laying out the calculated dismantling and destroying of Guyana. The destructive objectives are threefold. Power. Control. Self-enrichment.
First was the media. The Fourth Estate dismantled to a low state. No professional pride. Individual ethics savaged; of no account. Group standing a farce; content to be subservient to paymasters, those who can reward in many different ways. Or punish. What the Guyanese public was spoon-fed under the banner of news was nothing but the rot that represented the dismantling of truth and justice in this country. A main tower fell: Stabroek News gone. The forces of darkness won that round. So, they believe.
Second, the people who check spending, follow the trails, develop concerns, and issue reports found themselves operating in a constrained environment. Do this. Stay away from that and there. No memos. Just a meeting of the minds. And with properly screened and educated parties in place to produce the right results. The results speak for themselves. What wasn’t touched, what was superficial, what was left hanging…Instead of watchdogs sniffing out the suspicious, and raising alarms, what Guyanese got was more a case of leave sleeping dogs alone. Another edifice it was believed would hold steady collapsed. Private or public didn’t make a difference. Down they all went. It’s better to get in line and cooperate for there’s the door. No more business. There’s no better incentive to see matters in the manner of the forces of darkness.
Recall that Black people institution? International Decade for Peoples of African Descent (IPADA-G). The forces of darkness saw it as a thorn, a poisoned ivy, that had to be rooted out, and thrown into the furnace. There were pressures. There were ongoing squeezes. There were dirty tricks. All were employed to dismantle IDPADA-G, take it out of existence. The battle continues. More away from the spotlight, though. Verdict pending amid a stalemate.
Fourth, law enforcement was transformed into a pawn in the hands of Guyana’s forces of darkness. A pawn weaponized to brutalize those found offensive, in need of a lesson. The right people in place know whose orders to follow and impacting which Guyanese, for better or worse. The environment offers the best proof. The bodies protected, the bodies exposed, those are part of the story of what has been dismantled, what is imploding.
To speak out against the forces of darkness in Guyana carries a life sentence. Editors, writers, speakers and others can all testify at length about their experiences. For thinking independently. For speaking freely. For standing against those who block the light. For resisting those who break down what took decades and generations to keep going. Constitution disregarded. Democracy mocked. Respect for the rule of law converted to the pantomime of a wink and a nod. Thus, Guyana puts on global exhibition one of its biggest growth industry and exports: gimmicks.
Sixth, it was inevitable that the judiciary would have its day of reckoning before the forces of darkness. It didn’t do well. Manpower. Massaged. Manoeuvered. Manipulated. Guyana isn’t Maduro Country, but there is its judiciary, almost like a chip off the Venezuelan block. Now, one of its jurists who had a knack of going against the grain, of being a maverick, has his name called, and his bell rung. I know that trial. Been there repeatedly. Passage through adversity is proving myself worthy. It’s a message I share with those who sense the sinister arms of the forces of darkness drawing close.
Seventh, when public service is puppetry, oil money extracts a time for revelry, and budgets represent financial wizardry held as extraordinary labor, it is clear that the forces of darkness in Guyana have enjoyed huge success in almost every aspect of life in the local sphere. Institutions dismantled. Standards demolished. Values, nothing but objects of scorn. When the roof caves in, the walls don’t last long, the posts holdup nothing.
Eighth and last, I sum this snapshot up. All this presents a frightening picture of what Guyana looks like, what has happened to it, and where it’s left stranded. A sick and bloated cow without the interest or assets to save itself.
