Kaieteur News- Twenty-six-year-old security officer, Mark DaSilva, was fined on Tuesday when he appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on a dangerous driving charge.
DaSilva appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce, who read the charge, which stated that on April 4, 2025, at Strathspey Public Road, Tambran Street, East Coast Demerara, he drove in a dangerous manner.
DaSilva pleaded guilty with explanation.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, at approximately 16:10 hours, the defendant was riding a motorcycle bearing registration number CN 5293 and proceeding east along the Strathspey Public Road, while a woman was driving motor car PAD 1252, proceeding south along Tambran Ally Street.
As she approached the intersection, vehicles on the northern and southern lanes stopped to allow her to turn right onto the public road. However, as she proceeded to turn, the defendant, who was overtaking several vehicles along the centre lines, collided with the car.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles were damaged, and the defendant received injuries to his body. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was treated. The matter was later reported to the police, and an investigation was conducted. Upon completion of the investigation, the defendant was charged with the offence of dangerous driving.
DaSilva was fined $50,000 for his dangerous driving charge. Failure to pay will result in two months’ imprisonment.
