Kaieteur News- An 18-year-old man from Buxton, East Coast Demerara, was arrested by police in connection with the murder of a Cuban national from Melanie Damishana.
Police have identified the suspect as Tyrese Blair, whose last known address is Lot 44 Buxton Middle Walk, East Coast Demerara.
Blair is in custody for the offence of murder committed on 54-year-old Jose Aurelio Ramirez on Sunday at Melanie.
According to police, Ramirez was found with multiple stab wounds around 02:40hrs.
Police said the incident was discovered when an anti-crime patrol in the vicinity of the Melanie market area observed an ambulance from the Melanie Fire Station on the southern side of Market Road. Emergency medical technicians were seen attending to Ramirez and a female Cuban national.
“Ramirez’s body was examined and bore what is suspected to be several stab wounds. (One slash to left wrist, wounds to left chest, on right bicep, to right rib, and on the chin),” police said in a statement on Monday.
Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. His body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
No injuries were found on the woman. She was interviewed and is assisting with the investigation.
Meanwhile, another suspect is also in custody while investigations continue.
Residents in the area told Kaieteur News Sunday that two men on a motorcycle were seen approaching Ramirez.
One of the suspects, armed with a knife, reportedly stabbed the victim multiple times before robbing him of cash and fleeing the scene.
