Kaieteur News- A 29-year-old construction worker was on Friday remanded to prison for an attempt to commit murder charge.
Septon Barton of Plum Park, South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
He was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on April 8, 2025, at Plum Park, South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, he attempted to murder Roger Vyfhius.
The defense was led by Attorney-at-law Domnick Bess, who told the court that his client Barton, and the victim had an ongoing issue since last year. It was noted that Vyfhius threatened Barton several times prior to the April 8 incident which resulted in police reports.
However, the attorney told the court that on the day in question the victim attacked his client with a knife. The duo fought after which Barton made a report to the police.
The prosecution objected to bail on the ground that the defendant went into Vyfhius’ yard and stabbed him several times. He is currently hospitalized after undergoing surgery.
Further, the court was told that Barton admitted to the crime during a video interview with police.
Barton is scheduled to return to court on April 25, 2025.
