Kaieteur Sports- When the competition continued there were action at the Rose Hall Community Centre in East Canje and the Berbice High School Grounds.
There were wins for Berbice Educational institute and Vryman’s Erven in the 10 overs a side competition.
Berbice Educational Institute made light work of Tutorial academy in their encounter at the BHS ground. Batting first BEI soared to 149-3 in their allotment of overs. Leading their charged was Luke Amsterdam with a cracking unbeaten tournament high 81 with 7×4, 6×6. He got support from Leonard De Jonge 21, Ryan Mc Pherson 18 and Amish Hemraj 15. Three bowlers took one wicket each for TASS.
In reply Tutorial ended on 118-5 with M. Park unbeaten on 42 with Ojay Levin 18 and Junior Felix 17.
Bowling for BEI Amsterdam returned to snare 2 wickets while two other bowlers picked up one apiece. BEI won by 31 runs.
In a game at the RHC ground. Vryman’s Erven got the better of Canje Secondary by 5 wickets. Taking first strike CSS were held to 67-3 with Renny Ishmile 25, Guatam Danraj 16 and Kelston Kisten 15.
In reply, VESS reached 68-5 with A. Samuels 18 and Javal Ferera 16 being the top scorers.
The competition, which is sponsored and organized by the RCNA, involves secondary schools in the New Amsterdam/ Canje district with six schools participating.
It is being played using the theme “Exercise, eat healthy, stay healthy” and caters to students in Grades 7-9.
The schools taking part are New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS), Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS), Berbice Educational Institute (BEI), Berbice High School (BHS), Vryman’s Erven Secondary School (VESS) and Canje Secondary School (CSS.)
The competition is being played on a round-robin basis. With the schools being divided into two groups. The top two of one group will emerge to play the top two of the other group.
Each school team must play two females and one of the females is required to bowl at least one over.
Incentives are available for the top teams and outstanding individual players.
The competition is continuing with the semifinals and finals set for Friday.
The RCNA coordinating committee is made up of President Keine Read, Raffick Kassim, Tajpaul Adjodhea, Waynewright McIntosh and Nolan France. (Samuel Whyte)
