(Kaieteur News) – A fire Tuesday evening, destroyed an apartment building located at Cummings and Fifth Street Alberttown.
Kaieteur News understands that the building housed 57 rooms which were occupied mostly by Spanish-speaking residents. When this publication arrived on the scene, fire fighters were working assiduously to contain the blaze before it could spread to nearby buildings.
The burnt apartment building was situated two doors away from the headquarters of DHL and a popular shipping company. As the fire fighters worked to contain the blaze, DHL employees were seen removing what they described as important documents and consignment from their office. Residents and other curious onlookers stood helplessly as the fire raged through the building which was gutted in less than an hour.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, saving the nearby buildings.
