Kaieteur News- Former Regional Executive Officer (REO) for Region Eight, Mitzy Campbell has passed away.
Ms. Campbell passed on Wednesday evening, following a period of brief illness. Prior to assuming her role as REO, Ms. Campbell spent many years working in the fields of community development, administration and health. In 2016, she was awarded a national award, the Golden Arrow of Achievement (AA).
Ms. Campbell is being remembered for her role in many organisations including as Public Relations (PR) Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The hospital in a tribute released via its Facebook page noted that for several years, Ms. Campbell served with unwavering commitment, effectively bridging communication between the hospital and the public.
Her dedication to transparency outreach and patient advocacy left a lasting impact on the institution and the community it serves. “Mitzy was not only a valued colleague but also a friend, mentor and a source of strength to many. Her professionalism, warmth and tireless efforts to ensure effective communication made her an indispensable part of the hospital family,” GPHC said in its tribute.
In addition to her work in the community development and the public sector, Campbell also assumed many roles in the private sector where she was well cherished.
She was also a member of staff at Kaieteur News, where she is being remembered for her invaluable contribution, kindness, warmth and infectious humour. As the news of Campbell’s death spread across social media, current and former staffers of the newspaper shared heartfelt tributes and extended condolences to her closest family members.
The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) in a brief statement expressed sadness at the news of the former REO’s death. The PNCR noted it is “saddened to hear of the passing of Mitzy Campbell, AA aka Mitzy Gaynor.” The Party expressed its sincere condolences to her children, relatives and many friends at this time of their bereavement.
