Kaieteur News- Kester Johnson was arrested by police on Tuesday, after he reportedly made a video of his one-year-old daughter hanging from a tree with bed sheets around her neck at Lot 218 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday last, around 22:26h. Police reported that investigations revealed that the mother of the child Sawdia Bobb, shared a relationship with Johnson for ten years and they have three children together.
Prior to the horrific incident the mother highlighted that during the second week of February 2025, Johnson allegedly slapped her during an argument over a voice note, causing her to leave and stay with a friend for several days. Police stated that on March 22, 2025, Bobb became involved in a physical altercation with Johnson at their Blueberry Hill, Wismar home. Following that, Bobb went to the Wismar Police Station and made a report about abuse and assault against Johnson.
“However, she did not give a written statement, claiming she would return but never did,” police stated. On Tuesday at about 15:25h, after receiving information, ranks from Wismar Police Station contacted Bobb and interviewed her about a video showing her child being ill-treated. The video showed the toddler was in an unpleasant state, with bed sheets wrapped around her neck, while she was hanging from a tree. The child was seen crying and gasping for air.
The mother claimed that she had the video on her phone, but deleted it because she did not want anyone to know about it due to her daughter’s age. Police said, “Sawdia was asked to retrieve the video from her ‘trash’, which she did, and she showed the police a video of her child hanging from a sheet.”
Thereafter, an investigation was launched, which revealed that Johnson made the video and sent it to Bobb’s phone. The suspect was arrested, and both Bobb and her mother’s phones were lodged for the video to be extracted. Further investigations are being carried out. Police also said that a charge of assault was prepared against Johnson, and he is slated to appear before a court on Thursday. “A file is also being prepared for child abuse,” police said. The one-year-old child was medically examined, and there were no visible marks of violence. Police said that the toddler is alive and well. Investigations are ongoing.
