Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh one man tun up at de Pee Pee Pee Cee rally and ask if is de line fuh collect cash grant. De man seh he hear people talking ‘bout a big gathering, so he assume money deh sharing out. When dem tell he is a political rally, he seh, “Well, same difference, nah? Last election time I get a lil something, so I just checking.”
But he wasn’t de only one who come wid he own agenda. Dem had a set of people who is professional selfie collectors. Is like dem wukking fuh Facebook and Instagram. As soon as de big ones arrive, dem rushing fuh tek picture, posing up like dem is campaign managers. One man tell he friend, “Look, see me here wid de Vee Pee? Next week, when dem sharing out something, I gon use this as proof I deh pun de inside!”
Then you got de contractors-in-waiting. Dem boys seh some of dem never build a fowl pen in dem life, but suddenly dem is big-time engineers. Dem watching de big ones hard, hoping fuh make eye contact, just so dem could slide in a lil whisper: “Boss man, I could handle de next billion-dollar project, yuh know.”
But in de middle of all dem opportunists, dem still had many genuine supporters. People who come because dem believe in de party, who waving flag and chanting slogans from dem heart, not from dem pocket. Dem only hoping dat de people who come fuh hustle does go ‘bout dem business and lef politics fuh de people who really care.
Dem boys seh rally is not cash grant center, is not photo studio, and is not job application fair. But tell dat to some of dem who show up, and dem gon tell you, “If you ain’t getting nothing out of it, what you really doing here?”
And that is why de real ones does always end up shaking dem head and whispering to demself, “Same story every election season—different faces, same motives.”
