Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh a friend in need is a friend indeed. But nowadays, a friend in need does only get a friend in words—not in wallet.
Everybody full of nice talk. “We praying fuh yuh.” “Stay strong.” “Keep de faith.” Dem boys seh if prayer alone could pay light bill, GPL woulda be bankrupt. If faith could clear court fees, all dem lawyers woulda be outta wuk. But no, people only got prayers and sweet talk when you in trouble.
Dem same people who used to cheer yuh on when yuh was talking what dem like—suddenly dem vanish like morning dew when yuh need lil help. When yuh was in yuh prime, dem was yuh biggest fans. Dem used to share yuh words, clap, and seh how yuh a real champion. But as soon as yuh foot slip, dem tun priest and only got “thoughts and prayers.”
Yuh could set up GoFundMe from now till kingdom come—dem ain’t chipping in. Dem go be first to comment, “Stay strong, we behind yuh.” But dem behind yuh so far, dem done disappear. Yuh legal bill high? “Stay strong.” Yuh can’t pay yuh mortgage? “Keep de faith.” Dem boys seh if faith was currency, Guyana woulda be richer than Dubai.
And don’t talk about when yuh really down and out. When dem hear yuh in trouble, dem does suddenly get real busy. One time yuh phone use to ring every second, now even spam calls stop coming. Dem see yuh message but no response—WhatsApp blue tick done become grey tick.
Is then yuh realize, every man does stand alone at some time or de other. And de worse time is when yuh need help de most. Is when yuh bank account flat, when yuh got lawsuit, when yuh health failing—that is when yuh see who really deh for yuh. And most of de time, is yuhself alone.
Dem boys seh, some people like dem weather report—plenty forecast but no action. Yuh see dem, yuh hear dem, but dem never really show up when yuh need dem. So leh yuh problems be yuh teacher. Next time yuh flying high, remember who clapping now but go missing when yuh drop. And when yuh down, just know—prayers alone cyaan pay de bills.
Talk half, Leff half!
(A friend in need is a friend indeed)

(Kaieteur News) – My position on Hon Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill relative to the MV Barima tragedy is well known.
