Kaieteur News- Twenty-six-year-old Noah Beaton, the security guard who confessed to stabbing Toshao Ridley Joseph of Tasserene Village, Region Seven, 19 times was, on Friday, remanded to prison for murder.
Beaton of lot 43 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the indictable charge was read to him.
On Tuesday, he surrendered to police and confessed to stabbing Joseph 19 times on December 16, 2024, at the Signature Inn Hotel in Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.
During the court proceedings, Beaton’s attorney, Bernard Da Silva, stated that his client had no prior criminal record and explained that Beaton had allegedly been sexually abused by the deceased as a child.
“The now deceased was asked to confess and on refusal of that request, the deceased choose to again make sexual advances on the very night, that triggered the accused of what the psychologist would describe as internalized anger and he react rather than responding,” Da Silva stated.
The prosecution requested a long adjournment due to incomplete case files. Beaton was remanded to prison until his next court appearance on January 31, 2025. As Beaton left the courtroom, he appeared visibly fearful and distressed about his future.
It was reported that Joseph had travelled to Georgetown on Sunday to participate in the second executive meeting of the National Toshao’s Council (NTC) and had checked into the hotel at 18:23 hrs. Other Toshaos were also staying at the hotel.
However, Joseph had left shortly after checking in but returned around 00:50 hrs with a male friend carrying a ‘Rude Boy’ bottle (alcoholic drink) in his hand. Joseph purchased a bottle of water from the hotel’s receptionist and the duo went to his room. An hour and a half later the male friend left alone.
At around 07:50 hrs, Joseph was found brutally stabbed to death and lying in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed 19 times with 11 of the wounds to his back.
Footage of the suspect leaving the hotel was released to the public. The man suspected to be Beaton was seen walking out of the hotel with a cell phone in his hand.
